I found this incredibly rare news article from 1970 in an (AL) newspaper about Elvis' concert tour scheduled for that year. Hope you enjoy it.


ELVIS PRESLEY IS PLANNING EXTENDED TOUR
Tuscaloosa News-August 17, 1970

MEMPHIS (AP) Memphis entertainer Elvis Presley is planning his first personal appearance tour since 1958, the Commercial Appeal reports.

In a dispatch from reporter James Kingsley in Las Vegas, the newspaper said Presley plans appearances in Phoenix on Sept. 9; Detroit on Sept. 10; Miami on Sept. 11; Mobile on Sept. 12; Tampa on Sept. 13; and St Louis on Sept. 14.

Presley is currently setting attendance records at a Las Vegas hotel where his appearances will continue until Sept. 7.

JULY HAS BEEN A SLOW MONTH FOR NEWS

Sorry for the lack of updates or news reports on my blog. This has been a really slow month for Elvis-related news. But August is approaching and the news will most likely be picking up again. I'll be updating more throughout August including a look back on August 16, 1977 with news and media clips from that sad day in world history. Stay tuned....

EPE TO LAUNCH NEW ELVIS THEMED RESTAURANTS IN EUROPE

Elvis themed restaurants are coming to Eastern and Central Europe! Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. has licensed the EAD International Group for the project. The restaurants, called "Elvis American Diners," will feature décor inspired by the King of Rock 'n' Roll. Possible locations include Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Greece, Turkey and Russia.

"Elvis American Diner" is a unique restaurant concept. The artwork, food selections and music will present an American dining experience.

Two “Elvis American Diner” restaurants are currently in operation in Georgia. The first is in the National Philharmonic Building on Tbilisi’s Main Avenue and the second is in Tbilisi’s new amusement park. NEW COMMERCIAL AD BRINGS ELVIS INTO 21ST CENTURY

ELVIS PRESLEY ENTERPRISES TAKES LEGAL ACTION AGAINST GLOBAL BOOTLEG RING

EPE Inc. is taking strong legal action to stop bootlegging visual-audio releases by import labels and distributors of Elvis Presley material. I personally do NOT agree with this, but it's a business and I guess this is another way for them to make income these days with difficult economical setbacks. Tourism was down 4% at Graceland at just over 500,000 visitors in 2010 compared to that in 2009. Here is the link on EPE's lawsuit and settlement.
